Why Refreshing Your Lingerie is Important
When our lingerie starts to show signs of wear and tear, it can make us feel unattractive and uncomfortable. Refreshing our lingerie is important to maintain our confidence, comfort, and silhouette. Not to mention the health benefits of avoiding tight, scratchy, or binding lingerie that can cause yeast infections, chafing, or constant readjustment.
Simple Tricks to Refresh Your Lingerie
Hand Wash
Hand washing is the most gentle and effective way to clean your lingerie. Use lukewarm water and a gentle detergent like Woolite or Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap. Soak your delicates for 5-10 minutes, then rinse them thoroughly. Avoid twisting, wringing or stretching your garments, gently squeeze out excess water and hang them to air dry.
Reverse Washing
When you wash your lingerie, turn them inside out to protect delicate fabrics and preserve color. Remember to separate colors, and always wash white or light-colored lingerie separately, to avoid discoloration.
Steam and De-wrinkle
When your lingerie looks tired and creased, steam them to refresh their shape and smooth out lines. You can use a handheld steamer, a clothing iron or even a kettle. Hold the steamer or iron about 6 inches away from the fabric and move it gently and steadily across the surface without pressing down too hard. For added de-wrinkling power, you can also use a wrinkle-release spray or make your own with a mix of fabric softener and water.
Store Them Properly
The way you store your lingerie is just as essential to its health and longevity as how you wash and wear it. Use a lingerie bag or drawer organizer to keep your delicates separated and prevent snagging or pilling. And don’t forget to fold them neatly rather than cramming them into a tight space. This will help them maintain their shape and form, and they’ll be ready to wear whenever you need them.
